The number came from some guys years ago, one who flowed it against a mechanical evac fan he used in firefighting, similiar to ones we use at the refinery for venting storage tanks, and the other one in an independent test. The Mark VIII flowed just over 5000cfm in their tests and the Black Tragic was only flowing 1800-2000.
The the OP in that thread in with Spal somehow?

Science flies you to the moon.
Religion flies you into buildings.
If you havent seen one of these fans turn on in person I could see how you think that

The Junkyard is full of them everytime I go. I pulled out 3 of them this last time before I got this nice Minty one.
They are only $15 but I suggest if you dont use a controller that you buy a $20 75 amp Relay but seriously it needs it.

Me and my roomie run them... However these are better known as the Taurus dual speed fan. If you haven't used one in person, on a fully charged battery they will float...no kidding...
I sell new ones here at work becuase the ones at the you pull it always get grabbed fast. If you type Ford Dual Speed Fan into a google search the net is full of threads and reviews proclaiming it is THE BEST BANG FOR BUCK!!!! I have a good wiring diagram for using the dual speed function for dual fan vehicles that would like 2 speeds....

No they're not, this is and always has been known as the the Lincoln Mark VIII fan, the popular Taurus fans look more like the SN95 style.

Grab a pic of one or your catalog comparison, I'd like to see. Is the fan control schematic the one with the LED indicator?

I don't have a listing for the Mark VIII, which means they are different although both great upgrades apparently. Here is a pic of the dimensions on the Taurus/ Sable fan from 92-95 3.8 v6 only.
I'm not running that one particularly but I did convert my set up to an electric fan and I have a manual over ride switch in mine in case the coolant temp sensor goes bad. Which it has saved my ass twice already... Plus it's nice to have it running when doing those hard pulls constantly.
The Mark VIII is high and low and it's reversible.
Any fan should be reversible to make a blow through or draw through setup... I am wondering if the blade and motor are the same part numbers and only the shroud is different....

I don't see your point? Yes I HAVE seen this in person and the owners of the cars have said it doesn't put out anywhere near what people claim. There is also a 40+ page thread on 300zxclub dedicated to this fan with tons of information on it.
On low it barely puts out enough to be useful, and on high it just barely produces 3000CFM at best.
I just got a maxima dual efan that puts out 2500cfm, been researching this shit for months.
For DD use you would be good, but I wouldn't trust it for track/circuit use.

So your trying to convince me that a Maxima fan is stronger than this one?
Why do you think so many high horsepower cars run them? I didnt make this shit up. If you think that maxima fan blows harder than this one the only person you are fooling is yourself
This fan would keep my supercharged mustang no intercooler super cool in the middle of summer. Do you think everyone else that is chiming in is wrong too?
What actual hands on with it do you have? lets see a pic of your great setup

I have not seen the Contour fan yet.
No the blades are not the same, the motors may be, I'm not sure. The SN and Mark VIII use the same motor so maybe. The early Mark VIIIs had a steeper pitch on the blades and pulled even more cfm, Ford changed them because they were too loud. And yes Jaxinc these have been tested by several people over the years, with mostly the same results. Doesn't surprise me that the Corvette guy who seems to be associated with Spal would say theyre better. LoL
I'm sorry, his "independent lab test" said so,
