Salvage yards?

Just wondering which wreckers/salvage yards you guys have had the best experience with for newish domestics?

I need a DD, and my truck (89 4runner) is a turd to drive around the city, but I have this little Mercury Tracer that was a good little car until the motor blew. I'm debating either dropping a new motor in it, or wrecking it, and putting the money towards something else.

I've always gone to 5 j's or you pull, but I don't have time for you pull, and 5 j's doesn't have the motor (or tranny which the car also needs), so I was wondering if you guys could suggest another salvage that might have a decent price on a good motor.

Thanks for reading!

U Pull may be a little pricey for those items. You can probably get a couple hundred for wrecking, which may or may not be worth it to you for a new car. Seeing as how Civics/Corollas/etc. are pretty cheap on the used market, I'd say go that route. Given the time and money spent in finding parts, repairing said vehicle, and so on, you may conclude that a different car is more feasible.

Look into a fleet vehicle (high mileage, but generally maintained quite well) for purchase. A quality 1990s or even 2000s car can be had for $1-3k.

When I had to replace the engine in my 96 sable...
The only junkyard that had one laying around was a small mexican junkyard on broadway..
was like.. abc or aaa. something like that.. real close to U Pull.
3L dohc v6, which suprised me.
I guess it wouldn't hurt to call around if you ever have time.
