Well, I have a new project...sort of.

My good buddy Joe started on his project and recently moved out of state. He asked me to help get the car going, I accepted and so he left it with me.

The Project is a 1966 Mustang Fastback that has been in his wife's family for years. In fact, I believe she drove it in high school...correct me if I'm wrong Joe.

Anyway, it was originally a 289 C4 car, but after pulling the motor to rebuild it, it turned out to have a 302. Since it wasn't numbers matching, it was easy for me to talk Joe into doing something a little more interesting than a 289 rebuild. That's when he aquired Omar's (buffhomer) 331 shortblock with AFR165 heads.

The long block was then finished out with:

Edelbrock Performer RPM intake
Comp Cams Mutha Thumpr hydraulic roller cam
-I can't wait to hear this thing idle!!
Comp cams springs, pushrods, 1.6 roller rockers, timing chain set, etc.
Milodon oil pan
Edelbrock RPM mechanical fuel pump

The C4 recieved a perfromance build by Precision in Santa Fe, keeping an automatic valve body. They also supplied a new 3,000 stall converter.

Before Joe moved, we dropped the engine & trans in on new Urethane engine & trans mounts.

So, here are some pics on Moving Day: Loaded up and ready to move behind my Dad's old Cummins, and the other nestled into my little garage.

So we're about ready to get back to work. We're changing a few things for the better, and more parts have been ordered.

I spoke with Joe and we're going to clear the Traction Bars and Panhard Rod.

He decided he wants to make sure the steering is in good order, to go along with refurbishing everything else, so we're going to order up a new Flaming River quick-ratio, manual, steering box. We've also ordered a Rollerized Idler Arm from Opentracker Racing Products.

Suspension wise we've ordered the Bilsteins in favor of the the KYB's and a pair of Rollerized Spring Perches built by F15Falcon. We've also ordered a 1-piece Heavy Duty Export Brace, and a Curved Monte Carlo Bar.

Joe has also made the call to go with a rear disc brake conversion kit. and the wheel choice will be Vintage Wheel Works - Vintage 45's in 16"x8" front and rear.

Hopefully I'll start posting more pics in a couple of weeks.

I'd be interested in the shocks and spring perches. Let me know how much.

Finally got around to doing some of the dirty work and painted/undercoated a fenderwell. Came out pretty good...at least a lot better than before.

I am going to box the LCA and repaint it, drill the UCA drop, and then I will assemble the new suspension goodies and the new disc brakes.

I also cleaned and painted the crossmember, spindle, and strut rod.

Speaking of the strut rod, I might still have to work on Joe to let me build an adjustable version with the rod end mount. For now, we have urethane bushings going into the front and rubber on the back. The idea is that the urethane bushing minimizes compression of the bushing during hard braking, and the rubber bushing allows more flex during suspension travel.

OK, did a little more work...

Checked fitment/clearances on caliper bracket (probably will paint black since haven't torqued them down yet) and dust shield. Had my little helper shadowing me so, didn't really get too far last night. Painted the green calipers black with caliper paint.

Also finished up the rear Spring Perch which is now the axle mount for the Panhard Bar as well as the Traction Bar. The tabs on the top side of the perch fit the spring to minimize shifting of the perch/mount from the side loads of the Panhard Bar...otherwise it's all on the U-bolts which I think would tend to shift a little. I stole this idea from pictures of the perch in the Maier kit...

Hope to install the rotor/hub, caliper and brake line tonight.

So I reinjured my rotator cuff and as a result progress has slowed a little, but I'm still making progress...

Got the Bilstein shock dropped in and painted the green caliper brackets with black caliper paint, as well as fitting up the 1-piece Export Brace and Curved Monte Carlo Bar.

Also yanked the rear drums and went ahead and pulled the 8" out to make it pretty as it looks kind of funny with everything else all shiny and new looking. After I clean it up I'll hopefully button up and finalize all of the rear suspension. So there will be some after pics to come of all of that hopefully next week.

A few more pics:

Subframe connectors and front traction bar mount all painted up.

Also, with the axle pulled I got some different angles of the chassis mount for the Panhard Bar setup.

And last, but definitely not least, Tio Leo stopped by on his way to AZ and insisted on doing some more work, so we boxed the passenger side LCA. We also added some weld to the axle spring perches...will post those pics later when I finish cleaning up the axle.
